Race 7 of 33: Cook Out 250 at Martinsville Speedway
Track Specs: .526 Oval
Race Winner: Josh Berry
Weatherman’s Finish: 25th
Martinsville Speedway proved to be short track racing at its best for the Cook Out 250. With looming weather on Friday night, Weatherman climbed into the #47 LOF Defence/Brady’s K9 Fund Chevrolet to do battle on the half mile paperclip.
Stage One Finish: 35th
At the drop of the green flag, Weatherman fell back a couplespots while struggling with the balance of the car coming off the corner. NASCAR threw a competition caution at lap 25 allowing Weatherman to bring the LOF Defence Chevrolet down to the attention of Crew Chief Teddy Brown, who called for a spring rubber and wedge adjustment. The crew had issues getting the spring rubber in causing the #47 to go a lap down. At lap 94, NASCAR threw the red flag for rain. Due to continued weather coming through and the forecast of more, the race was to stay red until a Sunday 12:00 PM start time. At the lifting of the red flag for the restart of the Cook Out 250, Weatherman was called into the pits for tires and adjustments before the green flag, dropping him to 28th spot for the restart. After running pace and saving the car, Weatherman was able to get his lap back as the lucky dog on the next caution. A late race caution brought Weatherman and the leaders down to the attention of his crew for a two-tire change and adjustments, finishing the caution out with a 3 lap dash.
Stage Two Finish: 23rd
After the stage 1 end and pit cycle, the #47 car was listed in 12th position for the start of the 2nd stage. Dropping back a few spots after getting hung up on the outside, Weatherman began making his way back through the pack. On lap 140, the #47 LOF Defence car made contact with the JD Racing #15 spinning him into the outside wall bringing out the caution. Weatherman was able to continue and maintain his position. After another pit cycle and moving back up through the pack he was able to finish P23 to end Stage 2.
Final Stage Finish: 25th
After a 2 tire stop at the end of stage 2, Weatherman came out to take the green flag in 28th position. With multiple long green flag runs Weatherman was able to move up to 18th at one point but different pit strategies would put fresher tires on some competitors that would pay off for them in the end. Weatherman took the LOF Defence/Brady’s K9 Fund Chevrolet Camaro to a 25th place finish.
Kyle Quote: “We had decent speed out of the LOF #47 car today,” said Weatherman. “I’m defintely looking forward to coming back to Martinsville in a few months and we will definitely be better when we come back. It was an absolute honor to represent LOF Defence and the Brady’s K9 fund, as well as help raise money to help get K9 vests”.
